Arrested: 29-year-old man who tried(and failed)to break into Yishun flat three times in one night
A 29-year-old man, who probably thought that the siao lang town of Yishun was the best place to commit a crime, tried to break into a flat on Thursday morning. In fact, he was so determined to get in that he attempted it three times. In one night.
That’s dedication right there.
Unfortunately for the suspect, he was eventually arrested.
According to Facebook user Molly Molina, who put up pictures of her HDB flat’s damaged window on the social media platform, she awoke at 5:20am with a start when a loud “bang” sounded at her unit in Block 124, Yishun Street 11. She heard the sound of window mesh grating against metal, and saw a man at her window along the common corridor when she went out to investigate, The Straits Times reported.
Initially assuming the man was bringing her cat back to her flat, she said “hi” to the stranger (as one does), who quickly fled towards the staircase. It was only when she got closer to the window grilles that she noticed two bars were broken.
Molina then alerted her husband and notified the police.
But the man refused to give up, and attempted to enter the flat two more times — first, he tried to push another window open; when that didn’t work, he reappeared and hovered by her door.
Police officers arrived at the scene soon after and arrested the man — believed to be a fellow Yishun resident — for attempted housebreaking.

Thankfully, the incident had a happy ending. Molina subsequently received two sponsored sets of new window grilles from home decor firm U-Gate, and happily declared them to be burglar-proof.
