Police report filed against M Ravi for alleged assault of Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss
A police report was filed Tuesday (8 August) against lawyer M Ravi for alleged assault of opposition politician Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss.
A lawyer at Eugene Thuraisingam LLP located at The Adelphi, Chong-Aruldoss said in a Facebook post that she was nearing her office when Ravi with three men approached and spoke to her.
“I did not want to hear him, so I smiled and attempted to walk away, then he pushed me to the floor. I fell down. Then he took my handbag, briefcase and lunch bag and threw them at me. The he told the 3 men that I had hit him, which I did not touch him AT ALL,” she wrote.
She recounted that she stayed down on the floor in shock, while he kept ranting and kicking her things that were strewn all over the corridor outside her office.
When contacted by Yahoo News Singapore Wednesday morning, Chong-Aruldoss said in a text message that a member of her staff filed a police report on the incident on Tuesday. The lawyer, who is a member of the Singapore People’s Party, said she gave her statement to the investigating officer at Cantonment Road that evening.
“It’s not necessary for me to file a police report as my staff has done so and I have given my Statement, but I will still do so online once I am more composed,” she added.
When Yahoo News Singapore contacted M Ravi for comment, he responded but did not clearly address the alleged incident.
According to The Straits Times, Ravi formerly headed knowledge management at Eugene Thuraisingam LLP before he was fired in June. He was also reportedly later charged with criminal trespass after trying to enter the firm’s People’s Park Centre branch office.
The paper quoted Ravi as claiming that Chong-Aruldoss had pushed him first before falling down herself.
A video of the incident had been taken and he would be releasing the video after National Day, he reportedly said.
