Firefighters take 6 hours to extinguish blaze that erupted among marine buoys in Tuas
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters fought for hours to put down a blaze that erupted in a marine buoy storage yard at 21 Tuas View Place yesterday afternoon.
It proved to be a hard time for the firefighters — they had difficulties accessing the deep-seated fire among the large marine buoys filled with dense foam. Rows of buoys had melted and fused together from the heat, according to the SCDF, and the fire was eventually extinguished at about 7:50pm, about six hours since they were first alerted to the incident. The fire itself was confined within a basketball court-sized storage yard.
As of 8:04pm, SCDF personnel were still conducting damping down operations, where they had to continue applying water to burnt surfaces to prevent the potential rekindling of fire. Investigations are currently ongoing.
