A 70-year-old man died after the taxi he was in got into an accident with three other vehicles outside the entrance of Gleneagles Hospital on Thursday morning. Two cabs and two cars were involved in the incident, and the police were alerted to the scene around 11:21am.
One of the taxi drivers, a 62-year-old man, was stabilized by medical staff from the hospital before he was taken to National University Hospital, the police said.
In the other cab, two male passengers — aged 70 and 42 — were tended to at Gleneagles Hospital, but the elderly man subsequently succumbed to his injuries and passed away. His cause of death is unclear.
The Straits Times noted that it was an SMRT taxi and a Trans-Cab that were involved in the accident. The two passengers in the latter vehicle were reportedly a father and son pair from Indonesia — the older man was believed to be going to the hospital for a check-up on his heart condition. Following the accident, his son fainted after alighting from the cab.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the Singapore Civil Defence Force responded to the accident around 11:30am. Police investigations are ongoing.
