For the uninitiated, Go-Ang Kaomunkai Pratunam is a popular joint in Bangkok serving up a Thai version of Hainanese chicken rice. In recognition of its culinary prowess, the eatery was among those that received the Michelin Bib Gourmand award in the city’s inaugural Michelin Guide edition last year.

At its first overseas outlet in Singapore, it will be rebranded here at Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice when it opens on Oct 20 at Serangoon mall, Nex.

What started out as a humble food stall in 1960 at Bangkok’s Pratunam area has since won over the hearts of locals and visitors, and with its international debut, the brand isn’t taking any chances when it comes to quality control. The chicken is said to be delivered fresh every day from Malaysia, and kitchen staff have been trained at the original restaurant by founder Sombat Pruekpaiboon, who will be at the Singapore launch to ensure the food is the real deal.

Brought in by The Minor Food Group Singapore, the folks behind Thai Express and Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe, Go-And Pratunam Chicken Rice will dish out its signature chicken and rice, complemented by soups, braised pork, vegetable and tofu sides, and desserts.

The menu hasn’t been finalized yet, but you can expect the Hainanese chicken (from $4.50) to be portioned into single, quarter, half, and whole sizes, and the crowd favorite braised pork dish to be priced from $8. Plates of chicken, plain, or brown rice start from $1.50, while double-boiled soups (from $6.50) come in options like bitter melon and pork rib, duck and mushroom, and chicken feet. To pad your order, toss in your pick of Thai tofu and omelette dishes (from $5) or stir-fried veggies (from $6) to complete the meal.
