Chong Boon Secondary School student dies after 2.4km run during PE lesson
A 16-year-old secondary school student has died after collapsing following a 2.4km run, Channel NewsAsia reports.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call at 8:15AM on Tuesday, dispatching an ambulance and a fire bike to the incident at Chong Boon Secondary School. The student was pronounced dead at 11:44AM after being conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, a police spokesman said.
According to The Straits Times, the person who called the SCDF was already administering emergency resuscitation by the time rescuers arrived at the scene.
“Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered en route to the hospital,” the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) added.
Police are currently investigating the case, which has being classified as an unnatural death.
Just earlier this year in February, another teenager had died after collapsing during a 2.4km run. 15-year-old Loyang Secondary School student Bryan Chee — who suffered from a congenital heart defect — was taken unconscious to Changi General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
